In 1949, Roy Knox made his way to Newnan, initially employed by Lindsay Barron Electric and Plumbing Company. A routine at The Manufacturers National Bank not only secured his paychecks but also introduced him to Virginia, a teller recognized for her Friday-best wardrobe. Their union in 1950 marked the beginning of a family journey that would profoundly influence the local business landscape.

As Newnan experienced a rapid 1950s growth, Roy, drawing on skills honed in the Navy's Seabee unit, seized the opportunity in the thriving construction sector. In 1955, he ventured out on his own, establishing Coweta Contracting with a focus on supplying contracting services to the expanding community. Over time, this enterprise evolved into the well-known "Knox Company."

    Proudly embracing the motto "Our Family Serving Your Family," Roy Sr. actively involved his wife and children in the business. Virginia, more than a supportive housewife, played a vital role, and all four children—Roy Jr., Mark, Jan, and Jill—engaged in various aspects of the store. While Mark has assumed ownership, family participation remains integral.

    Celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2015, Knox Furniture stands as the area's largest family-operated furniture business, housed in a spacious 65,000 square foot facility. The commitment to quality and customer respect, instilled by Roy Sr., persists under Mark's leadership. Mark's tenure has seen a revitalized showroom, ensuring an enjoyable shopping experience for customers seeking high-caliber merchandise at reasonable prices.
