Twice a year, some 75,000 people — including some of us here at Knox and Panoply — flock to High Point, N.C., for the High Point Market, which is the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world. There’s a saying that “if you can’t find it in High Point, it probably doesn’t exist,” and that’s not much of an exaggeration. More than 2,000 exhibitors are featured in the markets of the 11.5 million square feet of showspace, and tens of thousands of new products are introduced at each edition of the High Point Market.
Since 2012, the market has featured “Style Spotters,” who are home fashion trendsetters whose job it is to showcase top trends at market each season. The team includes some of today’s most popular and influential designers and home fashion bloggers, each one offering a unique perspective on style and design. Some of the new trends “style spotted” earlier this year include:
Multifunctional and Compact Furnishings. Small-space furnishings are increasingly important, and consumers who are short on space still want a wide selection of options. To meet this need, exhibitors are offering more lightweight yet durable furnishings.
Livable Luxe. Today’s clients want to actually live in their space, so design elements need to be fabulous as well as family friendly, such as high-performance fabrics that are stain-resistant, long-lasting and durable.
Make It Your Own. Customization was big at the spring market, which means greater creativity for designers and a larger selections of fabrics, finishes and colors for consumers. There was also a new emphasis on using sustainable, eco-friendly and even hypoallergenic products.
