A recent article in Home Furnishings News magazine titled “Cue the Quatrefoil” notes the current trend of using the classic quatrefoil motif in interior design. The word quatrefoil means “four leaves,” and the quatrefoil is a type of decorative framework often seen in art, architecture and traditional Christian symbolism.
According to the Fall 2014 Home Furnishings News article, “Having adorned art and architecture for centuries, the quatrefoil is a popular motif in the home furnishings category as well, adding an elegant look.” Today you can find the quatrefoil motif gracing mirrors as well as lamps, tables and many fabric designs.
The mirror above is Stanley Furniture’s Charleston Regency Quatrefoil Mirror. This beveled mirror comes with four hangers so that it can be hung vertically or horizontally, and the versatile design works well whether hung as a single piece or in sets.
