Embrace the blues! The vibrant hue of dazzling blue was the star of this spring’s 2014 Fashion Week, with over 25 designers showcasing the shade, including Fendi, Chloe, and Vera Wang. Turquoise, sapphire, and ocean blues are showing up on everything from sleek vases from Jonathan Adler to an entire new fabric book from Kravet. Rich, saturated navy tones in particular are showing up everywhere from the runway to high-end interiors. But it is the unexpected pairing with gold that gives navy its truly contemporary look. When Apple brings out its marquee phone in gold and it quickly outsells the wildly popular classic models of white or black, clearly, a trend has arrived.
Blues in all tonalities will continue to grow in popularity, and gold that exudes opulence without going over the top is definitely a trend that will extend well into the holiday season, according to style experts. Designers will continue to experiment with this palette, mixing and matching every possible hue of blue with lots of different metallic and other color combinations. Walk through your favorite department store or spend time perusing the most current design magazines and you will begin to see what I mean. Blue went away for a long time as a color of choice, but it is back, and back in a big way.
