Some tips for keeping your leather furniture in great shape

Leather sofa by Craftmaster

Leather sofa by Craftmaster

Are you considering a new leather sofa or chair for your home? Or simply want to know what’s the best way to care for the leather pieces you already own? We’ve gathered some of the top leather-care tips from design experts. These include:

• Keep leather away from heat sources. Excessive heat can cause the leather to dry out.

• Arrange furniture to prevent fading. If leather is in a room with constant sunlight, fading can occur.

• Take care of spills immediately. When spills occur, wipe them up as soon as possible to prevent staining.

• Use recommended moisturizers. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines and use the cleaners and creams they recommend to keep your leather in top condition.

• Test before cleaning. Before you use any cleaner on your leather furniture, be sure to test a spot in an inconspicuous place to be sure there’s no discoloration.

We constantly have new leather furnishings arriving in our showrooms, as well as samples of the many different colors of leather upholstery available today, so stop by soon and let us show you more.

Whether or not the warm weather is here to stay, the warmer temperatures certainly have us looking forward to sunnier days ahead and the promise of spring. And if you’re interested in a sunny new upholstery fabric, a great line to consider is the Lilly Pulitzer collection for Lee Jofa, one of the fabric lines we carry at Knox and Panoply.

This multicolored orange and turquoise print is the Heritage Floral II fabric in the aqua and orange colorway. This indoor/outdoor fabric is part of the Lilly Pulitzer Resort 365 Collection for Lee Jofa.

More than 50 years later, her namesake Lilly Pulitzer stores are now located nationwide, and her iconic Lilly Pulitzer prints are available on everything from apparel for the entire family to handbags, jewelry, stationery, and home furnishings. Great design stands the test of time

Brighton Pavilion wallpaper by Miles Redd for Schumacher

Brighton Pavilion wallpaper by Miles Redd for Schumacher

As our friends at F. Schumacher and Company like to point out, great design stands the test of time. If you happen to be watching the Amazon series Z: The Beginning of Everything, Schumacher notes that the beautiful sets “will instantly transport you to the decadence and glitz of Jazz Age New York with ‘it’ couple Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald as your hosts.” And the wallpaper in the Fitzgeralds’ lavish Biltmore Hotel suite is Schumacher's Brighton Pavilion wallpaper by Miles Redd. (Click here and scroll down to the third image, which features the honeymoon suite with this wallpaper.)

Based on a rare 18th-century document and created by one of Europe's premier engravers, this design comes in coordinating panels of fabric and wallpaper with a 12-foot repeat.

Since Schumacher was founded in 1889, this family-owned company has been synonymous with style, taste, and innovation. A passion for luxury and an unwavering commitment to beauty are woven into everything they do. Eclectic decorating happily marries both old and new furniture styles

Banana Bark table from Hammary, spool chair from Craftmaster

Banana Bark table from Hammary, spool chair from Craftmaster

Do you prefer to collect pieces of furniture in more than just one style? If you tend to like to mix things up and inject your own personality into a room, then you may be a fan of eclectic style. Those who favor the eclectic style of decorating like to mix styles and eras of furnishings rather than opting for pieces that are strictly traditional or strictly modern. Antiques can be used alongside new pieces, or a classic piece may find a home right next to a newer, edgier piece.

In one of our recent groupings at Knox and Panoply, we paired a classic spool style chair from Craftmaster (#052410) with a Banana Bark Accent Table from Hammary’s Boracay collection. This table is 24 inches high, 18 inches deep and 18 inches wide. A unique accent, the table is reminiscent of a tribal drum in shape and design. It features a shiny banana bark side construction with top and base metal accent rings.

If you’d like to learn more about Craftmaster chairs, accent tables, or other pieces to suit your own eclectic style, stop by the Knox and Panoply showrooms soon.

This bedroom grouping from the collection includes the Jess Bed, which features a cathedral ash footboard and solid ash posts capped with a metal sabot finished in Modern Gun Metal and a wonderfully unique woven headboard accented with nail trim on the back side.

Also featured is the Circles table, a piece that is made to measure in increments of four inches because of the size of the circle cutouts. The armchair featured is the Empire Occasional Chair, which offers understated elegance in a contemporary silhouette. Poised Taupe is the Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year for 2017

Sherwin-Williams has announced that Poised Taupe (SW 6039) is its 2017 Color of the Year. “Poised Taupe celebrates everything people love about cool gray as a neutral, and also brings in the warmth of brown, taking a color to an entirely new level. Not cool or warm, nor gray or brown, Poised Taupe is a weathered, woodsy neutral bringing a sense of coziness and harmony that people are seeking,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams.

The Sherwin-Williams team says that neutrals are beginning a transition from the monochrome gray of the past five years to a more complex taupe and brown. In a recent homeowner survey conducted by Sherwin-Williams, nearly 40 percent of the respondents agreed that they would like to incorporate warmer neutrals, such as warm grays, taupes or beiges, into their home décor. Additionally, more than two in five people identified taupe as a timeless neutral they would choose.

In 2017, according to Sherwin-Williams, the subtle shift to warmer colors reaches commercial spaces too, which tend to move in more conservative color cycles than residential or designer directions. Influences such as natural or organic materials, weathered and worn finishes, and global cultural preferences have suggested alternatives to the primarily gray existence that has been the star of commercial color direction over the past five years.

Performance fabrics are a staple of today’s design world, and Thibaut’s Crypton Home fabrics combine performance attributes with sumptuous color in Thibaut’s signature color palette, and these fabrics also have a luxurious feel. Mosaic is a collection of Crypton Home fabrics that are tough by design and soft to the touch. This collection is a natural extension of Thibaut's offering in this category of high-performance fabrics.

Created for family-friendly living, these fabrics are woven to meet or exceed heavy-duty requirements for indoor upholstery, providing homeowners and designers with a fabric that is durable, breathable and stain-resistant. As the namesake of the collection, Mosaic fabric captures all of the qualities desired in a base cloth with a clear color statement from a distance and a rewarding amount of detail up close. This is a basket weave woven with a variety of yarns that add texture and interest.

Other fabrics in the collection include Annalise, a seductive chenille with subtle shine; Bailey, an unusual cloth that's evocative of a natural fiber with the practicality of a polyester warp; Lira, a linen lookalike in three subtle shades; Orion, a small, interlacing herringbone in cotton chenille; Montage, a modern chenille with texture running in both directions; Dot, resembling an animal spot or pebble; Kali, a universal pattern offering surface interest in a soft rayon chenille; and Gryffin, a textural pattern that is visually compelling and soft to the touch. If you’re considering new upholstered furniture, give us a call at 770-251-4557 and let us tell you more about today’s high-performance fabrics.
